  • Abstract:

The article presents an overview of the crucial views on the Polish question by Yu. F. Samarin using his polemical work The Jesuits and Their Attitude Toward Russia as an example. In it, the author analyzed the spiritual essence of the Jesuit teachings, which became the basis of historical Russian-Polish contradictions. Particular attention is paid to the role of the Roman Curia in the suppression of Orthodox identity: from the violent imposition of the union in Galicia under the rule of Austria-Hungary and Poland to the genocide of Serbs in the Independent State of Croatia (1941–1945), where Catholic clerics participated in terror, guided by the principle “the end justifies the means.” Samarin’s criticism of Jesuit casuistry turned out to be prophetic — its methods were adapted not only by Catholic missions, but also by the ideologists of Bolshevism, who used similar schemes to destroy the cultural and religious unity of the Slavs.
