  • Abstract:

    The article examines the work of K. K. Sluchevsky in the last years of his life, when he spent considerable time at his acquired and equipped country house on the Narva coast, in Gungerburg. The poet sought to arrange the house and garden at his discretion, planted plants himself, and took care of them. Sluchevsky’s correspondence and memoirs of his daughter A. K. Sluchevsky- Korostovets allow us to outline the poet’s circle of suburban communication, his and family members’ activities during their stay in the Nook. The history of the cottage Nook in the 20th century is briefly traced. It is noted that by now all the buildings have been completely lost. The article considers Sluchevsky’s poetic book Songs from a Nook (1902), some of the lyrical plots and images of which are evoked by life in the bosom of nature. The most important for the poet are the fenced garden, the pond, as well as the seashore with sandy beaches and the Narova (Narva) and Rosson rivers. The work also analyzes Sluchevsky’s short story “Two Grandmothers and the Wanderer Akinfiya” (1903), which takes place in Gungerburg and St. Petersburg.
