  • Abstract:

The role of L. A. Zander as a philosopher and religious thinker, brought up on Russian and European culture of the 19th — early 20th centuries, professor, teacher, and church and public figure, who actively manifested himself in various spheres of life in the first half of the 20th century, has been little studied to this day. Zander’s articles, reviews, and books are undeservedly little involved in the research and reading circles. The purpose of the article is to draw attention to the personality of the philosopher and to present many years of work on the study and popularization of the work of one of the most valued by him writers of the 19th century, F. M. Dostoevsky, the result of which was the book The Secret of Good. The Problem of Good in the Works of Dostoevsky. The article presents an overview of Zander’s articles and reviews of books about Dostoevsky in the journals Vestnik RSHD, Put’, Pravoslavnaya Mysl’, Grani, Mosty, and the newspaper Vozrozhdenie. It also gives an overview of his lecture work, organization of seminars and circles on Dostoevsky’s work. The author of the article uses Zander’s correspondence and concludes that the works on studying Dostoevsky occupy an important place in Zander’s literary and philosophical heritage and are a valuable contribution to the collection of studies of Dostoevsky’s work, to the development of Orthodox culture, awaiting separate republication.
